In June of 2020, the D.C. City Counsel has passed their own version of Compassionate Release Act, which is modeled in many ways after the Federal Statute.

Mr. Grimm has filed two compassionate release motions and prevailed on both. The requirements generally are that the inmate has contracted the COVID-19 Virus, or if they are over 60 years old and served at least 25 years of their sentence. There is also a medical exception.

Mr. Grimm has also filed motions under the Federal Compassionate Release Act. The requirements for that act are determined by the Bureau of Prisons. (See 18 U.S.C 3582 (c)).
